We are 20 days into the new year. Time for a little check in. How are you doing? How about those goals you set at the beginning of the year?

On my end…I committed to you all that I was going to perform at least 2 show per month, that I was going to do a mini tour this summer, and that I was going to break through my performance anxiety this year.

Part of my commitment, was also to let people know about my shows (since I’ve been avoiding this!) and also to recording/post at least one video after show on Youtube to keep me accountable. I had my first performance of the New Year this past week (Youtube video above). I need to decide what I’m going to do about show number 2 this month. It could be that I just hit up an open mic (which still counts!).

The interesting thing about Nashville, is that most artists are actually performing 2-3 shows per week not per month. The reality of balancing all the activity has been a real challenge for me. Between grad school, my music teaching practice (aka. my income source), writing 3 songs a week (aka. future publishing deal income source), and then trying to fit in things like regular workouts, friends and dating—-about 2 shows a month is just about all I got in me right now.

Admittedly, I’ve been in a battle with negative self talk because of this. I’m also happy to report that I am winning that battle through a lot of yoga and prayer. Instead of choosing all the negative, de-railing self-talk in my head that says, “Erin, you just aren’t doing enough,” I am committed to instead saying, “Erin, you are fine–you may be a late bloomer, but you are right on time because God’s timing is always perfect–Even when your path looks different than everyone else’s.”
