Baracoa framed 12×12 acrylic on canvas
About the piece: When I was in college, I did a music study trip abroad in Cuba on an educational visa. Though our group spent most of our time in Santiago de Cuba at the conservatory there, my favorite part of the trip was an off the beaten path weekend adventure to a tiny little charming city called Baracoa. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been, to date. Off the beaten path, through the winding mountain roads on a hot tour bus and we arrived to the most turquoise color of water and white sand beaches I’ve ever seen. The water, the view from the hills, the afternoon clouds, the art, mojitos, and playing soccer in the streets with the locals… sometimes as I forget how much experiences like this can change a person. As I get older, a piece like this reminds me to get out, to do more, to see things, and that something unexpected is always on the horizon if you learn to look up.
